Artist’s journal: #inspiration

Inspiration is a tricky beast. It can come suddenly, but if you don’t train your inner child by playing and doing things you truly enjoy, it doesn’t appear. More than inspiration itself, it’s about catching something from creation and turning it into something creative.

My eye is fairly trained to frame things in photography and, as a fellow drawing teacher says, to capture the play of volumes. The important thing is to hold on to that joy and immediately turn it into art. Sometimes it just stays there, though—and that’s why I set up an Instagram channel where I keep the photos I want to turn into urban sketching projects in my sketchbook.

At times I’m torn between using watercolors or markers, which I’m exploring, but I still mess up with the colors. So for now, I’m going back to watercolors—while still experimenting with the markers and the new shades I’ve picked up.

See you next time in my artist’s journal!

About Me

My first job? Web designer.
But I’ve always drawn and sketched. And as you’ll see here, I’ve developed my own personal style inspired by one of my greatest passions: Scotland.
Here’s a showcase of my work, available as printed artwork on canvas or other items of your choice, thanks to my collaboration with Redbubble.
